The crisp fall air at Village Elementary School breezed across my decked out wrists every morning as I passed through the green gates—a plethora of Silly Bandz, Rainbow Loom creations, and “best friends forever” bracelets covered my 8-year-old arms. Silly Bandz consumed my childhood; I traded with friends, gifted family members with giraffe-shaped jewelry, and allowed my wardrobe to revolve around my colorful wrists. When I’m reminded of Silly Bandz, my heart soars. Silly Bandz are not nostalgic, they are nostalgia. However, Silly Bandz serve a greater purpose for me than a reminder of my childhood fashion choices. Looking at the fashion trend of today, I sadly realize that there simply will never be a fashion statement to impact the fashion world as much as Silly Bandz have. Charm bracelets? Boring. Gold chains? Meh. Designer watches? C’mon. Silly Bandz are simply the highest quality wristwear, and no there is no argument to be had. If you approach me and are wearing Silly Bandz, please be my best friend and please trade with me. If you enter a black tie dinner party and pair your designer dress with a wrist full of Silly Bandz, please enjoy your feature in every major fashion magazine and please enjoy your spot on every best-dressed list. Silly Bandz are the epitome of nostalgia, and they serve as the best and only piece of jewelry that should ever be worn.
