Quit Toks

By Cuinn Huber

In December of 2021, over four million Americans decided to quit their jobs. Among those, several decided to do so via the most hip trendy app of the moment: Tik Tok. These people have made what has come to be known as “quittoks” among the youth. This is just barely scratching the surface of a trend that has taken millennials and Gen Z by storm with resignations across the country. The most common reason for people deciding to quit is that they are being overworked and underpaid. This is, unfortunately, a very common occurrence in today’s workforce where CEOs and company shareholders are trying to squeeze out as much profit for themselves as possible. For example, in 1965 the average CEO-to-employee pay ratio was 20:1 now it is 320:1. This combination is leading to more and more workers that are simply fed up and leaving. For many, pandemic stress was the final nail in the coffin for them to say “okay, enough now.” As of now, the great resignation is not slowing down, so expect to see many more of these quittoks in your feed in the near future, even if people may not want to hire people who do this later for fear of getting blasted on social media later.
