Going Solo on Valentine’s

By Jupiter Polevoi

Although I spent last Valentine’s Day with someone special, I’ve had to deal with my fair share of lonely February 14’s. I should preface this by saying that Valentine’s Day is completely overrated and spending it alone is perfectly fine. Honestly, it’s less exhausting lounging around at home with your 50% off chocolate and pink bath bomb. In this article, I’ll be sharing things you can do with yourself on this highly-debated day.

Buy Yourself Chocolate

I kid you not, Valentine’s Day chocolate and candy go on sale the very next day, and there’s honestly nothing better than discounted sweets. Indulging in a share-sized heart-shaped box of confections that, by the way, you can justify buying sounds like heaven to me.

Do Some Self Care

What’s better than an excuse to do a soothing face mask or take a nice warm bubble bath? Even if you don’t have face masks at home, there are plenty of at-home face masks you can make (just like the name suggests) at home! Most of these websites include recipes with ingredients most people have lying around. Here’s a link to an article I found: https://www.elle.com/uk/beauty/skin/articles/a38190/homemade-diy-face-mask-recipes/

Buy Yourself Some Flowers

Everyone deserves some flowers, even if you have to gift them to yourself! Bouquets can be expensive, but luckily enough Westmont’s very own club, ROOTing For Earth, is selling “Buds of Love” kits on Valentine’s day! These kits will come with a rose, chocolate, peony seeds (did you know that gardening can significantly improve your mood and mental health?), and an optional rose quartz crystal add-on! These kits are only $5 (plus the $1 crystal add-on) and are the perfect gift for not only a significant other but also yourself.

Hang Out With Your Single Friends

Who said you could only hang out with a significant other on Valentine’s Day? Hanging out with friends is always fun, and February 14th should be (and feel) like any other day! Whether it’s simply getting ice cream or going out to a fancy dinner, treat you and your friends to a fun afternoon/night out. No one should have to miss out!

I hope everyone enjoys their Valentine’s Day, regardless of if you’re single or not!
