“Yellow tape around his body, it’s a [*******] homicide
His face is on a T-Shirt and his family traumatized
I didn’t even mean to [*****] ’em, he just caught me by surprise
I reloaded my pistol, cocked it back, and [****] him twice…”
Prosecutors advocate that these song lyrics incriminate Jamell Maurice Demons––YNW Melly, who was arrested on February 13, 2019 and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. In his platinum single “Murder on My Mind,” debuted in his 2018 album I Am You, upcoming rapper YNW Melly supposedly recounts the details of his accused murders.
Continuously in and out of jail since 2015, Demons possesses multiple felony charges, including: possession and discharging of a firearm in public, possession of drug paraphernalia, and aggravated assault. Currently, he is depicted as the prime suspect in the murder of Christopher Thomas Jr.––YNW Juvy and Anthony Thomas––YNW Sakchaser; accused of shooting the victims and staging a drive-by scene to cover his crimes, before eventually escorting them to the hospital with his friend and alleged driver, Cortlen Henry––YNW Bortlen. Further describing the circumstances of the event, he sings that
“His body dropped down to the floor
And he got teardrops in his eyes
He grabbed me by my hands and said he was afraid to die
I told ’em it’s too late my friend, it’s time to say “Goodbye”
And he died inside my arms, blood all on my shirt…”
entailing the crime’s resolution.
Demons’ trial date has recently been set during a court hearing on November 30; if convicted he faces life in prison or possibly the death sentence. On March 7th the world will finally find out if YNW Melly truly “has murder on [his] mind.”
