Juggling Jamie

By Hailey Abdilla

A double-threat, senior Jamie Whiting flaunts his skills on both the Westmont soccer team and swim team. Jamie started swimming when he was four and began soccer in first grade, giving him plenty of time to hone his talents and excel on Westmont’s varsity squads. While Jamie doesn’t have any plans to further pursue his athletics following graduation, his hard-work and dedication to his athletics has not gone unnoticed. Fellow soccer teammate and friend, Evan Blenio, explains, “Jamie always brings a great attitude to the pitch and creates a joyous environment for the team at every practice and game.” Jamie’s positivity shines through, both on and off the field as soccer team captain Dylan Wright states “Jamie’s positive mindset benefits the whole team.” Jamie plays an integral role in the teams success, playing the versatile position of outside back where he not only defends the other teams attacks, but makes offensive runs himself toward the opposing team’s goal. Jamie’s eagerness and optimism that he brings to the table not only benefits team camaraderie, but simply makes practice and games more enjoyable for everyone. Jamie’s passion for his sports is evidenced by his advice for his fellow Westmont athletes, “follow your heart’s desires.” Come cheer on Jamie and the rest of Westmont’s boys varsity soccer team in the new year as they fight for a spot in CCS playoffs!
