Living the good life, Morgan Wallen should have been on top of the world following the release of his hit album, “Dangerous: The Double Album.” Instead, the star country singer found himself in hot water after TMZ released a video of Wallen coming home from a night out in Nashville, Tennessee. In this leaked video, Wallen was caught on film clearly calling another person by a derogatory racial slur. The posting of this video led to Wallen releasing a statement the next day, “I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.” Unfortunately for Wallen, the damage had already been done, and he was unable to qualify for the 2021 ACM (Academy of Country Music) awards and suffered a major decline in streams and downloads for his newly released album. Wallen’s record label also suspended his contract indefinitely and the country singer’s appearances were pulled from the TV network CMT. Luckily for Wallen, many devoted fans were quick to defend the singer’s actions, stating that his use of the slur was a slip-up caused by intoxication and he was being judged too harshly in the public light. Others argued that Wallen’s use of the word, whether under the influence of alcohol or not, was completely inappropriate and warranted severe consequences. Whatever your opinion is on Wallens social punishment for his use of racial slurs, one thing is certain, Wallen proved himself worthy to be a 2021 “Turkey of the Year”!
