Scooby-Doo, I love you!

By Madi Zanardelli

One of the greatest mystery shows of all time, Scooby-Doo is a cinematic masterpiece of  peculiar villains and exciting locations. Beginning with Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! in the 70s’, until the present day with the modern version, Scooby-Doo, Guess Who?, the beloved great dane has touched the lives of children spanning for generations. This classic cartoon, with its five unique and lovable characters, has gone on to have fourteen different adaptations and spin offs.

To keep the list brief, here are the top 3 best shows (author’s opinion) in no particular order:

First and foremost: Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!

As the original cartoon series, this ranks in the top three for it’s classic animation and campy storylines. It ran for only one year from 1969 to 1970, but it’s short run sparked the entire franchine making Scooby-Doo the renowned dog to this day.

Next: What’s new Scooby-Doo?.

With 3 seasons and 42 episodes, this series lasted 4 years, from 2002 till 2006. It was the first Scooby-Doo series to be produced by Warner Bros. Animations, a company which now has over ten different Scooby-Doo related movies and shows. This adaptation can be found on Netflix.

Finally, my personal favorite: Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated

This show took mystery to the next level, as it drew out two seasons-each filled with episodic mysteries—to form one big mystery. With complex characters and hidden callbacks, this adaptation ranks high on the list, and can be watched on Netflix.

Though each show keeps to a simple formula, it provides comfort to young children, putting meaning and explanations to the scary unknown. Hence why it prevails for generations. Each character is a different relatable teenager. Their fear, confidence and eagerness expresses different coping methods when dealing with the mysterious. Young children look at these characters when battling their own monsters, whether they are physical or mental.

No story about the great cartoon, Scooby-Doo, is complete without mention of the infamous Scrappy-Doo. Scrappy’s purpose is unknown to this day, but one certain fact remains: he stands as the epitome of hated cartoon characters, whose death couldn’t have been more appreciated. No matter which version you are watching, Scooby-Doo is and always will be an incredible show. A show which I implore all of you to watch, as many adaptations can be found on Netflix and Amazon prime. Scooby-Doo, is for you!
