The Legend of Korra

On August 14th, the sequel series to Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, arrived on Netflix. The show began in 2012, and ran for four seasons, before coming to an end in 2014. The events take place about 60 years after the ending of ATLA and follows the story of the next avatar, a girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra. She’s 17 when the show begins, which is one of the many differences between Korra and ATLA, seeing that Aang is 12 at the start of the show. Korra’s age allows for the show to contain different, more complex subject matter and darker moments. Netflix’s addition of the show to their catalogue feels especially relevant now because of the issues tackled by TLOK. The arrest of peaceful protestors, coming to terms with tragedy, and the rise of facism after the creation of a  power vacuum are all topics that span the four seasons. I highly recommend watching this show if you’re a fan of Avatar.
