A Secret I Can’t Tell

By Penelope Nunes

It was winter of seventh grade. That’s when I discovered Phoebe Bridgers. Seventh grade was an interesting time for me, I think it’s where I both found myself and lost myself. From then on, Phoebe became a staple in my life. I so admire the way she holds herself as a person, but also the way she creates music that allows for people to feel their emotions. It’s almost as if she understands her fans better than they understand themselves. She expresses feelings and emotions in such a beautiful way that can’t be described. Phoebe has gotten me through some of the most difficult experiences in my life. On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, I got the most incredible experience of seeing her in concert.

A few months ago, my friends Chloe Philip, Eera Bhagwat, and Evie Salacain expressed an interest in going to Phoebe’s concert. Of course I wanted to as well. We were able to get tickets, and after what felt like years, the day came where we got to see the woman who carried us through so many emotions.

Phoebe’s concert was a no phones concert which meant we got Yondr pouches, already being pros, we were not too worried about this. At first, it seemed like this would be hard to experience a concert and not have proof or videos of the event itself. However, it truly made the experience so much better. Not having our phones forced us to connect with each other; it also made the concert more intimate. We were not worried about getting the perfect video, of getting the right angles, or of posting the best story. Instead, we were focused on being present and experiencing such a wonderful thing with each other. It felt so special to go into a concert without knowing exactly what was going to happen. It made our show feel special to us because nobody else will ever know what really happened besides the ones that were there. So despite being worried about not having my phone, I’m so grateful she did it because I was able to enjoy the concert on a deeper level.

Not having phones was not the only good thing. This show was absolutely insane. Phoebe and her team clearly put SO MUCH effort into this. The lights were seriously unlike anything I have ever experienced. She created an environment where I felt safe crying, and where the songs felt personal. The things I witnessed cannot even be put into words. It genuinely was an insane experience that I am so blessed to have seen. She is an amazing performer who sounds exactly like the recordings. With such a talented voice, it left all of us speechless. I have never felt so seen at a concert before. It felt like Phoebe was singing with us and it felt as if she was making each and every one of us feel heard in the way we feel.

I know the way I’m describing things seems unreal and confusing, but there are not any true words that I could use to explain what I witnessed. It was the most magical thing I’ve ever seen, almost like a fever dream. Phoebe literally was glowing on the stage and glitter sparkled around her as rainbow lights flashed quickly around the room. Telling people about it and writing this down doesn’t even feel right. It feels like I’m telling a secret that I promised to keep, so with that said I won’t say anymore. As much as I would love to tell you everything, this tour feels personal and keeping it between Phoebe and who was in that arena in San Francisco just feels right. If you get the opportunity to see her in concert, I recommend you go because it was the only therapy I will ever need.
