In the past, large agencies and corporations have stripped the Earth of some of its most valuable materials to supply society’s vigorous demand for energy; consequently, climate change’s acceleration and imminent danger threaten the natural world. In response to the dilemma, corporations must consider the most environmentally sound alternative for generating power: wind turbines. Some of the most important factors that an agency should consider when deciding whether to establish a wind farm are the efficiency of the renewable energy wind turbines generate and their increasing popularity.
Compared to other energy sources, wind turbines offer significantly more efficient energy. Wind energy is the most efficient in terms of the percentage of energy input retained when converting fuel to electricity as well as the most cost-efficient, with Geothermal energy in 2nd. Wind turbines offer a cost-efficient solution to other high-demand and high-cost energy sources that many industries may employ. Additionally, Julia Layton, in her article “How Wind Power Works,” states that wind power “doesn’t release harmful gases like CO2 and nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere the way coal does.” Coal is a nonrenewable energy source that requires frequent extraction and ultimately damages the Earth’s biosphere. On the other hand, a renewable energy source like a wind turbine operates by harnessing Earth’s natural forces to generate electricity. The green nature of a wind turbine and the moral choice it presents on whether or not an individual hurts the biosphere by employing a non-renewable energy source should be something an individual or agency must consider.
