Ranking Halloween Candy

By Eera Bhagwat

With Halloween right around the corner, it’s everyone’s favorite time to go grocery shopping, when every candy imaginable seems to be on the shelves. Here are some of my favorite (and least favorite) candies of the Halloween season!

  1. Twix

Twix are my personal favorite of all time, arguably one of the best chocolate bars to exist. The combination of the crunchy cookie layer, caramel, and chocolate makes it a consistently great pick. If you like more caramel to cookie ratio, the Right Twix supposedly has more caramel, but if you’re the other way around, the Left Twix has more of a cookie layer, so make sure to be on the lookout this Halloween!

  1. M&Ms

M&Ms are a crowd favorite and a classic for Halloween. Even though they might seem simple, the simplicity of a crunchy shell and rich milk chocolate works well together every time, whether your favorites are the Peanut, Caramel, or one of the many other flavors they’ve released.

  1. Gummy Bears/Sour Gummy Worms

Gummy bears and gummy worms are another favorite of many. For me, they take me back to trick-or-treating as a kid, wanting all of the good flavors out of each pack, leaving the orange and yellow ones behind every time.

  1. KitKats

The combination of a crispy wafer and chocolate is hard to dislike, with a nice balance of crunch and sweetness. Plus, they’re easy to break apart and eat on the go, which is especially handy while trick-or-treating.

  1. Twizzlers/RedVines

This one might be controversial, but red licorice is much better than most people make it out to be. They still have a semifruity flavor and are a good break from chocolate candies, even though they can be chewy at times.

  1. Snickers

While Snickers have a good mix of chocolate, caramel, peanuts, and nougat, they can feel like too much compared to other candies and make you feel really full, especially when you’ve eaten too many pieces already.

  1. Skittles

Skittles are a solid fruity option if chocolate is not really your thing, but they’re not really the most exciting thing to receive on Halloween, and I would much rather take some M&Ms over them any day.

  1. Dots

Dots have decent flavor, but their stickiness makes them hard to enjoy, as they seem to get stuck in your teeth every bite you take.

  1. Milk Duds

These are mostly just super chewy caramel inside mediocre chocolate, nothing super special. Plus, they tend to take forever to eat and get stuck in your teeth like Dots.

  1. Candy Corn

People usually either love or hate candy corn, and unfortunately, I’m one of its haters. It’s honestly just way too sweet with an odd, waxy texture that I can’t get behind, so I can’t have more than one or two pieces at once.
