Although the Westmont Theater department is well known amongst the student body, Thespian Troupe #2904 may not ring as many bells. They are a group of thespians—officially initiated theatre kids—and non-thespians who meet in Room 6 every Thursday at lunch to discuss various things concerning Westmont’s theatre department, as well as what’s generally happening in the local theatre community. They cover audition dates for Westmont productions, performance dates for shows put on by local studios, and simply share their appreciation for everyone who helps make the department the best it can be. In addition, students are encouraged to share their talent with the world, in opportunities such as TheatreFest and CSTF (California State Thespian Festival). In these events, actors and tech alike can meet people with similar interests and goals from all over the state and attend workshops to either learn something new or to better their art. All of which is organized and carefully planned with help from our very passionate and dedicated board members.
However, with a variety of theatre classes and non-stop productions, why would the accomplished theatre department need a club on top of everything? After being asked this question, Westmont senior Ruby King, this year’s club president, answers with, “It’s a good way for people to get involved if they aren’t in a theatre class. It provides a sense of community.” So whether you are in a class, have been doing theatre your whole life, or simply want to try something new, Troupe #2904 welcomes you with open arms, jazz hands, and the threat of changing your most-listened-to playlist into Broadway Hits.
