The Unplanned Plans

By Kaia Lee

Sending a text to the group chat asking to meet

Is the same message I always repeat

But everyone’s busy “Maybe next week,”

A different day is all we seek.

We make the plans, then change the date

Move it back and back and wait

“We’ll hang out soon!” we always say

Awaiting the perfect day

Our messages are full of plans, but nothing’s set

A hundred plans we haven’t yet met

We try again and rearrange

But our schedules never seem to change

Maybe one day we’ll find a time

When we’ll all be out of our prime

Until then, I guess we’ll stay

Making plans for when we will meet up someday
