I Love Cottage Cheese

By Rosie Lu

Small cheese curds bathing in creaminess—or for the uncultured—repulsively viscous slimy lumps swimming in a soupy liquid. However, 80% of cottage cheese haters are just eating this deliciously healthy dairy product wrong, and I’m here to show you why. Here are some of the best ways to eat cottage cheese, in no particular order.

  1. Air-Fried Cottage Cheese Toast

The possibilities here are endless—air-frying cottage cheese gives it a beautiful crisp and melts it into an ooey-gooey bite of deliciousness, akin to melted brie or mozzarella. Sourdough is the optimal choice for cottage cheese toast, as its structure, ability to crisp, and slight tang complement cottage cheese perfectly. A sweet edition can be as simple as berries and cottage cheese with a drizzle of honey, or you can go savory by making a pizza toast with tomato sauce, cottage cheese, basil, and other toppings of choice.

  1. Cottage Cheese Bowl

If you’re a hater of the cottage cheese texture, this one might not be for you. But I love mixing cottage cheese with some cinnamon and vanilla, then topping it with a crunchy granola and vibrant berries. For those who like yogurt bowls, consider mixing in some Greek yogurt with the cottage cheese. Either way, cottage cheese bowls hit a sweet-and-savory note that reminds me of cheesecake.

  1. Cottage Cheese Alfredo Pasta

Most foodies have probably seen this viral TikTok recipe too many times to count, but I can attest to its deliciousness. Blended with some Parmesan cheese and seasonings, cottage cheese makes for an easy, creamy sauce without having to tediously thicken the mixture with a roux.

  1. Cottage Cheese Smoothie (Bowl)

If you don’t like the texture of cottage cheese, blend it! Blended cottage cheese adds so much creaminess while forgoing the curdy texture—it becomes so silky and smooth you won’t even notice it there.

  1. Hot Honey Sweet Potato Beef Bowl with Cottage Cheese

Spicy, savory ground beef paired with caramelized sweet potato has always been a crowd pleaser, so why not add on some cottage cheese for a bright change? Complete it with a drizzle of hot honey and avocado, and you’ve got yourself a special meal.
