Why Diego Pavia Did Not Get Drafted

By Henry Hansen

After this year’s NFL Draft, many prospects have found themselves on teams. One player who brought in a ton of hype but went undrafted was Diego Pavia. Pavia was a Heisman finalist this year, but there were concerns about his small frame. Standing at 5’9”, 207 pounds, Pavia is very undersized for a quarterback in the NFL. Even so, his frame would not have stopped him from being drafted in the 5th round or later. The real reason for Pavia being undrafted is his attitude, which started with his proclamation that he was being mentored by Johnny Manziel. Manziel, an NFL bust, is known for his horrible decision-making and bad attitude. This has caused many teams to steer clear of Pavia, but some still had him as a 7th-round option. This is when Pavia sealed his fate as being undrafted, stating that he would only want to be a starter on an NFL team, and he wouldn’t consider being a backup. This made every single NFL team not want to spend any draft capital on him and resulted in him being an undrafted free agent. Of course, he did get a camp invite because he was a Heisman finalist, eventually signing with the Ravens as a UDFA, but I do not believe he will last long there. Unless he can fix his attitude, he will be out of the league within 5 years.
