Bruno Mars’  The Romantic Album Feeds My Soul

By Haley Kim

Why am I suddenly ascending into the heavens? Oh my goodness, as soon as I clicked play on Bruno Mars’ Romantic Album, I was absolutely awestruck at the beauty of it. What a glorious comeback from his terrible, and I mean terrible, latest single that has some questionable lyric choices (I think you know which song I’m talking about). It’s safe to say, the good ol’ jazzy, romantic Bruno Mars has made a return, since his album An Evening with Silk Sonic!

This album brings to life a ’70s retro pop that evokes nostalgia and soul in every song. Curtis Mayfield, Philly soul, and other Latin pop influences heavily inspire Bruno Mars’ new album. However, some critics argue that this new album is “almost too similar to the artists he’s referencing” or that “it sounds too familiar.” Call it what you may, but you can’t deny Bruno Mars’s almost uncanny ability to channel that dreamy, charming vibe through your AirPods. Everything about The Romantic album glides with a swoony mood and romantic lyrics. I’m sure you guys know why Bruno Mars is the top artist right now on Spotify! I highly recommend you give this new album a try, because by the end, you might muster up the courage to ask that one girl out.

Here is my list of the songs on this album that I recommend you listen to in order:

  1. God Was Showing Off
  2. Why You Wanna Fight?
  3. Dance With Me
  4. I Just Might
  5. Risk It All
  6. Cha Cha Cha
  7. Nothing Serious
  8. On My Soul
  9. Nothing Left
