“Do You Like Scary Movies?”

By Penny Nunes

When I heard about a new Scream movie coming out, I just about SCREAMED! These movies are some of my favorites, the beautiful stories that go on throughout each movie, and how it’s about more than just the jump scares. All of them illustrate beautiful friendships, relationships, and families. This movie, Scream 7, was one of my favorites. Not only were the jumpscares perfectly placed, but the storytelling of the realistic mother and daughter struggles were so enticing to see. I never felt the need to pick up my phone throughout the whole movie—and as someone who gets distracted easily and bored, that is huge. The actors were all cast wonderfully and fit how I would imagine them. The idea of incorporating current issues in our lives such as A.I was so clever and really drew attention to the harm that A.I brings. Just about every problem that occurred throughout the movie was because of something related to A.I, one way or another, and it brought so much awareness to the topic. Throughout the whole showing, I was on the EDGE of my seat, ready with my shirt to cover my face, but I also could not look away. Nothing will be as good as the original, of course, but this Scream was so special in so many ways—it felt like the old ones. A lot of times, when new versions of movies come out, they are changed in ways to fit modern times or trends, but this one kept that special fire that Scream movies bring to the table. Yes, it used some present-day vocabulary and ideas, but it overall captured the comforting essence that the series has always had. For something that is supposed to be horrifying (and don’t get me wrong, it had me SCARED), it brings back a piece of my childhood, something that I will always be grateful for. This movie was a 10/10 RECOMMEND!!!
