Super Sister

By Lili Metanovic

Growing up with a sister isn’t easy. There are countless fights and arguments over things that don’t even make sense, and don’t even try to wear their clothes without asking because you might get killed. Despite all of that, I got extremely lucky with mine. My sister, Melania Metanovic, is my superhero.

Although she doesn’t wear a cape or have a super suit, she has all of the other qualities anyone could ever wish for. She defends crime; whenever someone is mean to me, she’s the first one to get mad on my behalf and defend me without hesitation. She helps everyone around her, not just me, by being the most supportive person ever. Knowing that someone always has my back gives me confidence, even when I don’t fully believe in myself.

Whether I realize it or not, my sister has influenced almost every decision I’ve ever made. She’s the person I look up to more than anyone else; she sets the standard for the person I want to be. Whenever I run into a problem, I ask myself, “What would my sister do?” I don’t only admire her for the person she is; I try to put it into my own life.

She’s also the only reason I’m sitting here writing this article, in this journalism class. I wouldn’t have taken the class if it weren’t for her encouragement to try something new. And since I want to be just like her, I took the class because she was in it. That small bit of push from her forever changed my life because I’ve now found a place to express my creativity.

She makes mistakes, gets annoying, and definitely knows how to win an argument, but even through all of that, she’s still the person I trust the most, look up to the most, and want to be like every single day. I would say she’s perfect, but I can’t do that because it would boost her ego way too much, and she already has enough confidence from the rest of this article. No matter how many fights we have or how much she pretends she doesn’t care, I’m incredibly lucky to call her my sister; and my superhero.
