**SUBTLE SPOILERS**
Whether the subject may be toys, shows, or even games, Ninjago has it all. The franchise, built upon LEGO bricks (ha, see what I did there?), has one way or another found its way into the childhood memories of Gen Z. From begging parents for the newest elemental dragon in the Target children’s aisle to bargaining for extra screentime, these experiences unite people’s childhoods. However, this article in particular won’t be a profoundly sentimental one. Rather, I exercise my wistful experience with Ninjago to conclude with a verdict of rationale—a verdict that decides the best season of OG Ninjago (only rated the first four seasons, because anything after that just isn’t as nostalgic).
Season 1: Rise of the Snakes – 8.7/10
Built off the pilot episodes really well and released an iconic wave of LEGO sets. Season 1 does a great job regarding character development. Each of the 4 ninja find their “true potential” through their internal and external conflicts.
Season 2: Legacy of the Green Ninja – 9.5/10
The wave of sets released for this season is not just iconic, but also legendary. Season 2 reveals much more than season 1 thematically, as the conflict between a father and son comes to a resolution. The green ninja ultimately defeats his father, Lord Garmadon, in an epic final battle that still plucks the heartstrings of nostalgia to the core.
Season 3: Rebooted – 7.8/10
Airing with the purpose to reboot the show, hence the season’s name, Season 3 follows more adventures of the ninja as they must defeat a digital virus of pure evil. The plot gets convoluted and bizarre at times, but the sacrifice of Zane, master of ice, in the final episode leaves a lasting impression.
Season 4: Tournament of Elements – 10/10
Season 4 builds off the plot of season 3, as the ninja attempt to locate Zane. In addition to incredible worldbuilding with diverse characters, season 4 also offers touching scenes. Garmadon’s redemption in his act to banish an army of humanoid snakes serves as an effective parallel to season 1. Last but not least, season 4’s magnificent fight choreography displays cinema at its finest. 10/10 for incredible animations, characters, and plot.
