A Week In Nashville: Memories, Music, and Southern Charm

By Addison Serrin

Over ski week, I had the opportunity to travel to Nashville, Tennessee, the city known as “Music City.” As soon as I arrived, it was clear to me why it was given that nickname. The trip gave me a chance to experience a new place that was filled with live music, good food, and welcoming people.

One of my favorite memories from the trip was walking Nashville’s most famous street, Broadway. There were bright lights everywhere, and live music in almost every building. Artists were playing both country classics and modern-day hits, creating an energetic environment all around–the streets were alive all day and night. My family and I walked into Miranda Lambert’s restaurant, and we discovered an amazing up-and-coming artist. Her name is Abbie Callhan, and she appeared on The Voice in 2017. We sat there for over 2 hours and listened to her sing originals and mainstream songs. Along Broadway, it didn’t matter where you walked; there was always a guitar playing nearby, and it connected the city in a magical way.

Another highlight of the trip was exploring all of Nashville’s unique shopping districts–my favorite by far being the 12 South. Filled with cute small businesses and fun murals for photos, this shopping center reflects Nashville’s southern charm.12 South also has the famous La La Land cafe that always has a line out the door. A runner-up to the 12 South is the Gulch, which is right next to my hotel, featuring lots of boutiques for people who love to shop til they drop. It also has the best biscuit place on the planet, Biscuit Love. I highly recommend you stop here for breakfast if you find yourself in Nashville. Both shopping areas give you the best Nashville experience.

While in Nashville, I also visited the Country Music Hall of Fame. Inside were exhibits featuring popular artists and historic instruments. Seeing the outfits and objects of famous musicians made the history of country music feel more real and personal. My favorite outfit was Megan Moroney’s silver sparkly dress. The museum showed how Nashville grew into such an important center for the music industry.

Overall, my trip to Nashville was an unforgettable experience, giving me a deeper appreciation for music and travel. Whether you are a fan of country music or just looking for somewhere to explore,  Nashville offers something for everyone.
