The “pink tax” is simply female products costing more than male products. Yes, it’s the same product, just in a “prettier” color that supposedly appears better to females. This is seen throughout all basic hygiene essentials. Now, of course there is more to it than that. It is dressed up to be better than the male version; looking better in packaging, reasons why to buy it being emphasized more on the front, and even the layout of the product in packaging looking stronger—yet in the end, it’s still the same product. Essentially, it causes so much more than just harm than just to women’s pockets. Why should we be forced to pay more just for products that “suit us” better? Is it because we are “more work” and “need more things,” or is it just because there’s nothing we can do about it? The pink tax is often overlooked because most people don’t see the issue, I mean a girl’s razor obviously is stronger than a man’s, right? So we need to pay more for it, right? Wrong. Here is an example:

Same brand, same blade, same amount of razors…yet different colors for different genders, meaning different prices. Women have constantly had to put up with being looked down upon or being underestimated, why should we have to pay more now? Here are a few more examples with other products:

The pink tax has been around for a long time, and it doesn’t seem to be getting better. Keep an eye out for it when shopping and make note about which brands are still participating in this shameful act. There are plenty of wonderful images out there that really capture the frustration. Below is an example of one that really speaks volume. The pink tax isn’t fake, it isn’t a joke—it’s real and degrading to know that just because of their gender women have to pay extra.
