What Do Your Dreams Mean?

What Do Your Dreams mean?

To answer your question, nothing. Frankly, your dreams don’t mean anything. With my credential being a lengthy phase in middle school, I can tell you right now to save the time and get out of bed. Of course, there are a couple of theories valuable enough to study, and somewhat readable scenes with the possibility of being entertaining.

First, the most controversial, the Freudian Theory. Neurologist Sigmund Freud of the early 1890’s theorized that dreams represented one’s sexual subconsciousness. Freud’s close companion, Carl Jung, had a stronger theory. The Jungian Theory states that dreams were nature’s way of communicating the unconscious beliefs to the conscious mind, opening one’s eyes to their full portrait. Many Ancient civilizations believed dreams were prophetic messages from the Gods, making impulsive decisions in the name of God, which was really just their Ancient gut. To me, asking the question “What do dreams mean?” parallels the philosophical conundrum of “What is purpose?” What I’ve come to believe is that dreams are simply one’s normal day thoughts that usually sit in the back of their mind, taking place on stage.

Obviously, it is your right not to believe any of this. Dream psychology’s century on Earth shies in comparison to other sciences. But I do motivate you to not research dreams as a science, but as what they mean to you as a person. By waking up and reaching for a dream journal over Instagram, you subject yourself to five minutes of introspection and meditation before your day. As well, you’ll build your memory, your own bond with yourself, and some fun anecdotes for the road! But first, some laughable definitions for what means what in Google’s own dreamscape:

Q: What does my dream mean if… my teeth fall out?

AI Overview: Anxiety, stress, loss, or a lack of control.

The classic teeth falling out. This one I could maybe get behind, because I understand the loss of words or feeling like you can’t speak. But if I ever got this, I’d assume it was just a message from my dentist.

Q: What does my dream mean if… I cheated on my boyfriend?

AI Overview: Internal feelings, fears, unmet needs, not a desire to actually cheat.

I disagree that there’s no desire to actually cheat when AI also states internal feelings. Dreamer, you’re in need of a long talk with your boyfriend.

Q: What does my dream mean if I die?

AI Overview: Transformation, major life changes, or the ending of a life chapter.

I feel like you don’t need to Google this one. This goes to show how it’s really about the events leading up to death in your dream, or what might have happened after. And nobody can let you know what that means but you–you’re in need of a long talk with yourself!
