Girls Basketball

By Madeline Tanaka

After an outstanding 2024-2025 season, the Westmont girl’s basketball team is back at it again. Although the season has just started, the team as a whole has been successful. Unfortunately, though, they’ve faced many challenges as as many as five players have been out due to injury. This issue, I am joined by varsity captain Kathryn Tanaka on the season thus far and how the team has navigated through these obstacles.

How many years have you been playing Westmont basketball?

Kathryn: 4

What makes Westmont basketball fun/exciting?

Kathryn: Everyone on the team brings their own energy, so we’re always laughing together during practice. All of my teammates are also super competitive (in a good way), so it pushes everyone to work their hardest.

What is the best part about Westmont basketball?

Kathryn: The best part of Westmont basketball is definitely playing Catch Phrase.

How do you see this year’s season unfolding?

Kathryn: We’ve been dealing with a couple injuries, so times are a little rough, but this team is so resilient and I’m sure we will #dominate!

What are you most looking forward to this season?

Kathryn: I’m looking forward to playing my last year and making more memories!

Why should others join Westmont basketball?

Kathryn: People should join because you make so many friends, especially since you’re together for six days a week for four months straight. It doesn’t matter how good you are, basketball teaches you resilience and self confidence.
