I grew up watching the Harry Potter movies when I was a little girl, and those winter nights spent curled up with the franchise shaped the way I see it today, which is why my rankings aren’t really based on film quality so much as pure nostalgia (and possibly controversial opinions). Even though I was born a muggle, I’ve always felt like I belonged at Hogwarts, and every time winter comes around, I can’t help wishing I were wandering its candlelit halls with snow drifting softly over the castle.
1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) – 9.5/10
Nostalgic, energetic, and packed with memorable moments. The Triwizard tournament and the introduction of new characters expands the franchise even more. Rest in peace Cedric Diggorty, you were loved.
2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) – 9/10
This movie has one of the best atmospheres and incredible character development. The Time Turner sequence and Lupin/Siris storyline make it a standout.
3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) – 8.7/10
Such a fun mix of mystery and adventure. I love watching Harry, Ron, and Hermione in their youth, and we’re introduced to Dobby, arguably one of the best characters in the entire franchise. This movie captures childlike magic.
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011) – 8.5/10
A fast, emotional finale, filled with tense emotions and high stakes. It’s action-packed, with tragic deaths, but a satisfying ending.
5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) – 8/10
Focused and impactful. Umbridge raises tension, Dumbledore’s Army brings heart, and the Ministry battle delivers great visuals. Just not as memorable as the others, and lacks excitement. Also, it’s hard to follow the Goblet of Fire.
6. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) – 7/10
Warm, magical, and nostalgic. It hurts me to have this movie so low on the list, I truly love how wholesome and whimsical it is. It lacks depth compared to the other films, but it deserves credit for introducing us to the world of Hogwarts.
7. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) – 6.5/10
Moody, and visually appealing. Doesn’t stand out to me much, and doesn’t capture the book’s true essence. Some major details feel downplayed, but still deserves an above average rating.
8. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010) – 6/10
Slow but character driven. It sets up the finale effectively, even if the pacing drags in some points through the movie. It’s easily my least favorite movie, I’m sorry if this offends you.
