What is the meaning behind your artwork?

Over the summer before senior year, I got the chance do my very first rock jump at the Garden of Eden in Santa Cruz. That jump allowed me to play between the line of danger and excitement; I loved every second of it. My artwork represents the environment I shared with my friends and connected into my AP Drawing theme. I took my fleeting moments of that jump to connect with how precious yet fast our adventures fade. In order to highlight the nostalgic memories of my youth as I get older. For a high schooler, time is constantly passing before you can even notice yourself graduating. Like school, cliff jumping builds a lot of overthinking and anticipation until you take that final leap and suddenly your off into college, making a big splash, trying to find your way in the world.

What was the inspiration behind this piece?

Honestly, I was inspired with how fearless my friends and family continue to strive. I take inspiration in those who set their minds into their passions; fearless to take the next step into sharing what they love with the world around them and aren’t afraid to have a good time.

What do you hope viewers will take away from this artwork?

Im hoping viewers can see themselves taking that next step into a brighter and more fearless future so they can continue to make more memorable adventures.

What was the process like in creating this piece?

The process was a lot more than the painting seems because I had an under painting that guides me when I add color.

Who is your favorite artist and why?

Alissa Hrushka. She has such a beautiful way with painting color theory to express captured moments in her life. I love her use of lighting to unify all her subjects in a piece.
