Motion in the Ocean
What is your favorite part about this piece?
The color palette.
What was a challenge in creating this ?
Trying to blend the different shades of blue glaze because it all dries a different color, and its hard to tell what the end result is going to look like until it’s fired.
What medium did you use to create this artwork?
Clay.
What is the meaning behind your artwork?
The artwork is supposed to represent different parts of the ocean and the beauty of how they all look together.
What was the inspiration behind this piece?
I took inspiration from the textures and colors of different types of sea coral, as well as different parts we see of the ocean, such as beach waves, ripples in the water, and the wind that moves it.
What do you hope viewers will take away from this artwork?
I hope viewers will appreciate how theres more individual features of beaches and the ocean, and how they all affect each other.
What was the process like in creating this piece?
The process was fun and planning it really tested my creative thinking abilities. I found that the ocean had a lot of different elements and textures that I could incorporate into my structure. I decided to add a sense of movement and arrange the textures so that they were all moving in the same direction going down the walls, like how waves are layered when they crash.
Who is your favorite artist and why?
My favorite artist is Georgia O’Keefe because the subjects of her paintings are so unique and her simple, yet layered art style sets her apart from other artists in my opinion.
