The Ultimate Ranking of Holiday Movies: From Naughty to Nice

By Penny Nunes

With the holidays around the corner it is officially time to watch all holiday movies. Looking for which ones are a must or which ones you can kick off Santa’s sleigh? Well I’m about to tell you what movies made the cut of the nice list, and which movies are receiving some coal this year.

Meet Me Next Christmas:
This one definitely made the nice list, and it is high on the list at that! If you are into rom-coms and are looking for the perfect Christmas movie to snuggle on your couch to watch, this is the one. The plot is fun and keeps you engaged–but most importantly, it’s different! Layla, the main character, follows a long romance process that helps her uncover her new true love and the importance of trusting the process. This is Santa approved!

Best. Christmas. Ever!:

Another movie for the nice list–so fun and entertaining. This was such a good film that never left me bored. With a plot that I had not seen before and the unique aspects that made it wonderful, this was a movie I will rewatch every year. The movie explores how important it is to appreciate what you have, and how everyone has something going on. Perfect for the holiday season! Jackie and Charlotte are old friends but ended up having very different lives. Jackie appears to have the perfect life with huge projects in her life, while Charlotte has smaller things going on. As they end up together for Christmas,Charlotte realises the truth of everything and discovers a new perspective of her life. This one must have come with a bag of cookies because it is Santa approved!

The Knight Before Christmas:

Well, brace yourself for this one because it is being pushed off the sleigh. Let me save you about 92 minutes. MINI SPOILERS AHEAD (but also not really because everything is so predictable): A knight travels to Ohio hoping to complete his quest–which surprise surprise…is finding love. The time travelling in this story does not make much sense, nothing is ever fully explained and it leaves you confused. Along with this there is not a true conflict, so there is not much to resolve. The language is funky and it seems like it is trying too hard. If you ask me, this one is a box full of coal.

An Elf’s Story:

Ahh… what a classic. I grew up on this movie, it holds such a soft place in my heart. Every single year I cuddle on the couch in a nice blanket with a glass of hot chocolate and cookies by my side. This movie is so charming, with fun warm colors and sweet nostalgic messages. It takes us to the North Pole, and shows us what happens to an Elf on the Shelf each night before going back to their assigned house. It helps restore the Christmas magic in anyone who watches and is family friendly so you can enjoy it with anyone! Look at that, another film for the nice list!

A California Christmas:

Well…this one does not quite hit the same. This film follows Joseph, who is sent to get land sold. Despite having a Christmas name, it holds no Christmas spirit. There is hardly anything that leaves you knowing it’s Christmas besides a few decorations. Of course it has a romance plot, which I normally love, but this one was too predictable. There was no point in watching the movie because you could just infer what was going to happen! I don’t mean to be a Grinch but I predict this one falling onto the naughty list.

I hope I was able to save you some time but don’t forget to watch these movies that landed on the nice list. There are millions of good holiday movies out there, stay on the lookout for those, and try to avoid the naughty listers. Happiest of holidays to you and your friends!
