5 Dishes I Need to See on the Thanksgiving Table this Year

By Sophie Tuan

Thanksgiving, a holiday seeped in tradition, has its staple dishes such as turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, candied marshmallow yams, and cranberry sauce. But this year could be the time to add a new dish to spice up the table.

  1. Roasted Root Vegetables—a classy blend of potatoes, carrots, beets, and turnips, a tray of fragrant roasted vegetables will add both color and savory flavor to a Thanksgiving feast. Move aside the candied yams and make room for this flavorpacked dish! Recipe
  2. Cornbread Stuffing—the classic Thanksgiving dish but elevated by adding aromatics, herbs, and spices. No more hard leftover cornbread, bake this easy recipe instead. Recipe
  3. Sauteed Green Beans—a fresh and simple addition to the table, these green beans are crisp and perfectly seasoned. Mushy green bean casserole takes too long to make; instead, simply toss these green beans into an oiled pan and season with salt, pepper, and garlic. Recipe
  4. Kohlrabi Slaw– a sweet and tangy apple slaw with hazelnuts and parsley. Not only is this recipe quick and easy, the light slaw pairs perfectly with the heavier, richer foods adorning the table. Recipe
  5. Crispy Smashed Potatoes—crispy, cheesy, and rich, crispy smashed potatoes are delicious and amazing. They are super fun to make (especially with kids) and even more satisfying to eat. Recipe

From warm, earthy vegetables to fresh, tangy slaw these recipes are sure to bring holiday cheer to any Thanksgiving table. These recipes will not only bring warmth to hungry stomachs but also to families as all the recipes above can easily be made as a family (kids included!). Personally, I will be making the crispy smashed potatoes with my mom this Thanksgiving.
