George Clanton

By Sadie York

Over the years I’ve expanded the horizons of my music taste drastically, specifically delving into the vaporwave and electropop scene. While I’ve picked up the likes of various different artists, George Clanton, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, produces certain melodies so uniquely ethereal that continue to go unrecognized every day. His most streamed song, Warmpop,—which you’ve likely heard on TikTok—beautifully displays Clanton’s creative thought process, but I find one of his earlier albums, 100% Electronica (2015) to have produced his best hits. It Makes the Babies Want to Cry, my personal favorite track off the album, combines synesthesia with an immersive descent into emotional conflict.

The majority of Clanton’s music opens with a lulling introduction, followed with a rapid descent into an echoey release, then cycling a series of waves to a faded outro. While the perfect beats for a good bit of soul-level ascension, Clanton’s tracks consistently go unappreciated, lacking the traction needed to spark popularity in media.

If you’re looking to expand your own music taste, I heavily recommend checking out George Clanton’s discography, filled with hidden gems and palpable techno beats.
