Here on Westmont’s campus is a club whose sole dedication is to give back and nourish its community through food that would have otherwise been tossed in the garbage. Food4All, a nonprofit organization that originated within the SF Bay Area, goes across local towns along the coast to help reduce food waste and give it to those in need. Westmont branch president Emily Christensen explains how “Food4All is more than just another club, it’s a way for us as a community to give back to those in need in the most basic way we can.” In simple words, the organization branches to different schools where branch presidents are established; then each branch must partner with local flea or farmers markets in order to gather produce that isn’t “desireable” or would otherwise go to waste. However, it doesn’t just have to be from markets, according to the organization’s website— “school lunch lines, local businesses, and catering events” are also places of interest. The food then is redistributed to food drives and homeless shelters. Organization president Lucas Orsulak was kind enough to comment, saying “The purpose of Food4All is a near cause, and I believe the work we do is so special and something we need to be doing.” All in all, Food4All is a cause not enough people are committed to; the club is relatively new so if you have extra time and want to serve and give back follow their instagram @westmontfood4all or by reaching out directly to Emily Christensen (557868@my.cuhsd.org)
