Thankful 4 Mundane Things

By Averi Halbert

As big and busy as life can be, I’ve always found that the small, mundane occurrences are the ones worth noticing.

Here’s a few to notice

  • Putting cozy socks on when your feet are cold
  • A nice cold glass of water after being thirsty for a while
  • When the sun hits your window at just the right angle
  • Noticing the slow decline of your toothpaste
  • Your dog’s excitement when you get home
  • Walking into a house that smells like a home baked meal
  • Watching your comfort show
  • The sound of rain
  • Noticing your plant has grown
  • A good hair day
  • Laughing so hard you cry
  • Holes in walls of bedrooms that show someone has lived there
  • Jumping into a pool with your friends
  • Memorizing what spots on the floor creak
  • Finding the big dipper in the stars
  • A book that makes you gasp at the plot twist
  • Discovering a new favorite
  • Eating ice cream on a hot summer day
  • Offering to take a photo for a group who is struggling with their selfie
  • When the right song plays at the right time
  • Old couples holding hands as they walk
  • Well loved books with cracked spines and dog eared pages
  • The sound of a roller coaster as it ascends
  • Crossing off a task from a to-do list
  • Talking to strangers
  • Weeds growing through cracks of cement
  • The sound of autumn leaves crunching beneath your feet
  • 11:11
  • Knowing what a misplaced modifier is (thanks Mr. Evans!)
  • Imagining dewdrops are in a race and predicting which one will win
  • Using a new sponge to wash dishes
  • A window seat during a night flight
  • Getting ready for bed at the end of a long day
