French Fry Tour

Inevitably, fries are delicious, golden goodness that comes from the glorious potato plant. These wondrous things can come in all shapes and sizes, and from various restaurants across the globe. Today, I’m going to take you on a tour of all the whimsical shapes and sizes of fries. 

For our first stop, we have the classic standard cut fries. Straight-cut fries are classic, evenly sliced potato fries that are golden and crispy on the outside with a soft, fluffy center. They are the most common type of fries, served in fast food and casual dining, and pair perfectly with your favorite sauce. Restaurants like Five Guys, In-N-Out Burger, McDonald’s, Arby’s, Wendy’s, and Burger King all serve straight-cut fries. You can never go wrong with the classic fry. 

Next on the fry tour, we have curly fries. Curly fries, or twisted fries, are french fries twisted into a spiral shape and typically seasoned with various spices. These fries are uncommon compared to the classic straight fry, but they are still delicious. The restaurants that sell curly fries are Arby’s, Carl’s Jr., Jack in the Box, and Popeyes. This amusing twist on the classic fry is truly delicious and creatively amazing. 

For our next stop we are taking a trip down crinkle cut fry road. When it comes to dipping fries in sauce, crinkle-cut fries will be your best bet. The crevices in the fry make it perfect for absorbing and picking up delicious sauces. They are the perfect golden crunch to pick you up on a bad day. Crinkle-cut fries are unique and only available at a select few restaurants, such as Shake Shack, Fosters Freeze, and Canes. They are the perfect dipper and pick-me-up. 

Last on our fry tour, we have the waffle fry. Waffle fries are known for their distinctive criss-cross and lattice-like shape. The shape provides a crispy outside and fluffy inside. This type of fry is truly underrated and very uncommon. Chick-fil-A is one of the only chain restaurants that serves waffle fries. I don’t know about you, but I think more restaurants should carry this exquisite fry shape.
