Lorde Concert

By Sadie York

On May 14, 2025, my AP Language & Composition Exam was in process, and as I furrowed my brows over an MCQ on loquat trees, something far more important occurred outside of the gym walls. The Lorde Ultrasound presale was released, and as I left my exam feeling groggy and disoriented, I received a text from my dear friend Malia Wightman—we had secured the tickets.

Back at the Greek Theater of Berkeley since 2013, Lorde noted this venue was one she requested specifically for her tour. Openers Empress Of and Japanese Breakfast were phenomenal, and while Malia and I were in the pit, any seat in the house offered a fantastic view and audio range. Empress Of performed from 6:30-7, Japanese Breakfast from 7:30-8:00, and Lorde herself finally came on at 8:30.

The energy from this concert was filled with so much love and spirit, as every single song sent everyone into a dancing fit. With her visuals and contemporary dancers, Lorde’s overall stage presence was insane, and her setlist put everyone in their feels, with several popular songs including Supercut, Royals, David, Buzzcut Season, Green Light, Team, and Ribs.

I can now finally check this concert off of my list of dream artists to see, while currently undergoing post-concert depression. As amazing of an experience as it was individually, seeing this concert with my best friend was so even more fulfilling, and I’m so excited for all the future ones to come.
