Rating Unique Fall Movies

By Kira Yurchenko

With so many options during the fall season, it’s hard to find something worth watching to get you into a spooky mood. I took the time to watch a few fall movies to help you decide which movie to watch this fall!

  1. Fantastic Mr. Fox

I true-heartedly believe that everyone needs to watch this movie at least once in their lifetime, this movie is genuinely fantastic. The movie’s plot is so clever and well executed, this is truly just an iconic movie. I love all stop motion movies, but this paw-some film takes the cake! 10/10, will definitely watch again.

  1. Empire Records

Empire Records is the perfect fall movie because its full of messy feelings and the kind of existential dread that pairs well with shorter days. The entire plot feels like it takes place during a late-October afternoon, where no one’s really working, but everyone’s definitely spiraling. The soundtrack could single handedly rake  leaves and overthink your life for you. Basically, it’s sweater weather for your soul– 10/10, an amazing movie.

  1. Edward ScissorHands

Empire Records

Edward Scissorhands is a perfect fall movie because its moody, whimsical atmosphere fits the season’s tone so well. The autumnal visuals, eerie setting, and Danny Elfman’s haunting score capture the quiet beauty of change. It’s a perfect, cozy, and bittersweet watch for a crisp fall evening! Overall I give it a 9.5/10, no complaints.

  1. American Psycho

Now, some of you may argue this is a Halloween movie, but American Psycho is actually perfect for fall. Its cold, stylish aesthetic and themes of identity , isolation, and control align more with autumn’s introspective tone than Halloween thrills. The unease it creates is psychological, not supernatural, making it ideal for quiet, moody fall nights. 10/10, great watch!

  1. Honorable Mention, the Twilight series

I know this is technically a series and not a movie, but shush, this is my article I can do whatever I want. Nothing says “autumn vibes” like brooding vampires, flannels, and endless overcast skies. The gloomy Pacific Northwest setting basically feels like October in movie form. Plus, who doesn’t want to sip a pumpkin-chai while watching a sparkly vampire awkwardly fall in love? 10/10, best fall series of all time!
