In this issue of Bay Area Bites, I bring you to High Five Pizza, a local family-owned restaurant & sports bar that’s been serving the local community since 1989! At High Five Pizza you can expect to see families eating out, sports fanatics yelling at the TVs, and a loud—but welcoming—atmosphere.
Despite the name, the menu doesn’t just serve pizza; High Five Pizza also delivers an array of culinary delights, including sandwiches, Wings, Mozzarella sticks, barbecue, and even a salad bar.
I arrived at the restaurant with high hopes, my family and I decided to visit on a Saturday afternoon, where we decided to order the all-time classic pepperoni pizza. The cheese was delectable, the crust had a great crunch, and the pepperoni had amazing crispiness around the edges. The pizza also wasn’t too greasy, making the experience all the more pleasurable. Although not exactly mind-blowing, the pizza had a smoky flavor that nails the basic fundamentals that make a perfect pizza, giving consumers exactly what they wish for when trying to get something to eat with their friends before watching a Thursday Night Football game.
Although I only ordered the pizza, other customers online have noted some of their disappointments, many giving mixed opinions on the wings and other food items, illustrating that although High Five Pizza offers an extensive menu, their pizza remains their specialty. It’s also worth noting that reviewers state that the environment could be “chaotic” during the peak hours. On a good note, the pricing was fair, the portions were good, and the welcoming environment was hard to beat.
High Five Pizza isn’t trying to do anything crazy, but the place flourishes on its consistency and character. High Five Pizza is a great place to go to when you want to enjoy a good meal with family and friends, or just want to sit back and watch the 49ers while having some good food in front of you. Overall, it was a great experience.
