Varsity captain Hannah Crowley is a name known by almost every Westmont runner. She’s fast, she’s smart, she’s funny, and she’s ready to win it. Having been on the team since freshman year, and running for far longer, she’s got the speed and the ambition to lead her team to victory. Read the Q&A below to learn more about everyone’s favorite runner.
What is your favorite memory from cross country?
Going to CCS freshman year with friends.
What are your goals for this season?
To bond with new runners and PR at Montgomery Hill.
What is your pre-game routine?
The night before, I always eat a ton of pasta with red sauce, and then before the race, I put on my lucky blue-egg socks.
How long have you been running?
I’ve been running since seventh grade, so around 5 years.
What is your favorite part about the sport?
Being able to have the choice between running on your own and running with your team.
Do you hope to have a future in running?
Yes, though I know that it’s very competitive and they have some new rules. Ideally, though, I would be running at UC Davis.
What advice do you have for new members?
Staying consistent matters, and it’s important to bond with your team as much as it is to run.
Do you play any other sports?
Yes, I run Track in the spring and Soccer in the winter.
How do you balance academics while being a multi-sport athlete?
I try to use the time teachers give in class and make sure to ask for help if you need it.
Where do you want to go to college?
Ideally, UC Davis, but a close second would be Cal Poly SLO
What is it like being a captain this year?
I definitely have a lot more responsibility concerning the team, and helping people break out of their shell has been a big part of my job this year.
Any advice for new captains?
Get to know your team really well, as well as your coach, and make sure you learn and communicate goals for the season.
