SPOILER ALERT!!
DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT CAUGHT UP ON ALL OF SEASON 3!
Every Wednesday, my sister and I rush home from school to start watching the newest episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty. We grab our favorite snacks and begin to watch the emotional battle of two brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher, who are both in love with the same girl. As I’m writing this article, season 3 is currently on episode 7. This season has been a rollercoaster of events that are leading up to the season finale in 3 weeks from now. Nobody knows where the author Jenny Han will decide to take the end of the season. Which brother will she end up with?
At the beginning of the season we learn that Jeremiah Fisher cheats on Belly Conklin with Lacie Barone while they were on a “break”. Belly overhears Lacie talking about the hookup at a party, leading to a confrontation. Jeremiah admits it happened twice and claims it was while he believed they were truly broken up, though Belly felt the breakup was temporary. Belly is mad at Jeremiah, and they break up for the time being. This particular event caused many long term team Jellyfish fans to switch to team Bonrad. After cheating on Belly, Jeremiah feels immense guilt, and as a grand gesture to prove his love and win her back, he proposes to her. The proposal adds a rapidly substantial turn to the rollercoaster of events.
During a family lunch following Susannah’s memorial, an argument occurred, leading Belly to announce their engagement to her mom, brother, Conrad, and Jere’s Dad. Nobody in the family is happy about the engagement at all. This adds tension to the overall storyline. Belly’s mom, Laurel, decides she does not want to support Belly in this decision because she believes they are too young to commit to marriage. Jere and Belly decide to go along with the wedding anyways, without the support of either of their parents.
The wedding planning process starts to pick up pace and it leaves Belly stressing. Meanwhile, her and Conrad are at the Cousins beach house together while Jere is Boston working at his internship. Conrad and Belly share a few moments that seem to rekindle a flame from a few years back. As wedding plans are set into motion, Belly begins to have second thoughts about the wedding. At her bachelorette party she begins to visualize flashbacks from when she and Conrad were dating. After the party, she goes to meet Jere but instead finds Conrad who has just learned about Jeremiah cheating with Lacie. Confused by the circumstances of the bachelorette party, Belly finds herself talking to Conrad, leading to an intimate and emotionally charged discussion. Conrad confesses that he is still in love with her and begs her to rethink the marriage. As the wedding grows closer and tensions between the Fisher boys rise, Season 3 proves to be the biggest emotional rollercoaster yet. With heartbreak, family disapproval, and the lingering question of who Belly will ultimately choose, this season keeps fans on the edge of their seats. The Summer I Turned Pretty doesn’t only feature young love, it portrays rough times, growing up, and figuring out where your heart truly belongs. If you have been following Belly’s rollercoaster for a long time, season 3 is a must watch that is going to deliver an unforgettable season finale.
