Survival horror videogame series Resident Evil has recently announced the highly-anticipated 9th game to the series: Requiem. Resident Evil, known for their impressive storytelling, action, gameplay, and graphics, sets to release Requiem on February 27, 2026. While far in the distant future, there’s much to unpack with the trailers Capcom—the developing company—has released.
The currently released Resident Evil games vary in perspectives and settings, while still following a main plot with the same “core characters” as recurring leads. That was until the 7th and 8th games (Biohazard and Village) introduced a completely new protagonist, in which players are limited to a first person POV, concealing the identity of this mysterious new character. However, despite all differences, each game can be strung together with lore, as well as the simple premise of mutant-infected monsters in a post-apocalyptic setting. The most recent installation (in analogical order) of the series was Resident Evil: Village, in which protagonist Ethan Winters searches for his kidnapped daughter. From what we know about the upcoming game, it is set at least 5 years after the events of RE: Village, in which we play as the new lead protagonist, Grace Ashcroft. As a timid young woman working for the FBI, we’ll be introduced to a whole new perspective when in game. As far as we know, Grace is dispatched to investigate a series of mysterious deaths at a hotel, many of which hold ties to her past. Several fans speculate a return of fan-favorite characters such as Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Ada Wong, as the trailer omits clips of familiar locations such as Racoon City (location of RE 2 and 3).
If looking for a new game to get into, there’s plenty of time to catch up before the release of Resident Evil: Requiem!
