My Chemical Romance – A Concert to Remember

By Sabrina Staringer

My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way (Lead Vocals), Ray Toro (Lead Guitar), Frank Iero (Rhythm Guitar), and Mikey Way (Bass Guitar) are currently on their fittingly named Long Live the Black Parade stadium tour. A celebration of the 2006 concept album The Black Parade. The band’s second tour date took place at Oracle Park in San Francisco, and I had the privilege of attending to see them live. As a die-hard fan, I was super excited to see this concert, and they did not disappoint. The energy, passion, and connection with the audience was terrific. It was truly an unforgettable experience. The band put their all into every single song they played; it really made me feel like I was listening to each song as if it were for the first time again.

The first half of the concert was an album play of The Black Parade;  it was truly amazing to see the level of storytelling and theatrics they put into their performance. Bringing the album to life in front of roughly 50,000 people.

When “The Black Parade” ended, MCR moved to the secondary B-stage to perform an array of classic and fan-favorite songs from their other albums. “Thank You For The Venom”, “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)”, “Summertime, “Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)”, “It’s Not A Fashion Statement”, It’s A Deathwish”, “SING”, “Boy Division”, “Helena”,” and to close,  “The Kids From Yesterday”.  Along with this setlist, San Francisco got a surprise cover of the Smashing Pumpkins.  “The Bullet with Butterfly Wings”, the cover was energetic and wild, creating a unique and memorable moment for fans.

My Chemical Romance’s Long Live the Black Parade concert was probably one of the best nights of my life. The theatrical elements and nostalgic buzz of the music that filled the stadium was a fantastic experience I will remember forever.
