XL Marshmallows? More like XL Failure.

By Averi Halbert

Lucky Charms have been my go to cereal for over a year. Does it say a lot about my diet? Absolutely. However, in light of recent events, Lucky Charms is no longer my go to. You might be wondering, but why? Why do you not like the amazing marshmallow-y goodness that you sometimes bring to school to eat with a thermos full of milk because you were running late to school anymore?

I’ll tell you why.

Like most brands, General Mills, the company running lucky charms, has promotions to keep their product relevant and boost sales. Sometimes, if the promotion was especially promising, Lucky Charms will continue to make adapted versions of their cereal to sell, like their chocolate version or just selling the marshmallows. A few months ago, Lucky Charms released a version of their cereal with XL rainbow marshmallows. Now look, I love the marshmallows in Lucky Charms. It’s the reason I buy the cereal in the first place. However, the XL marshmallow promo is just too much. Every time I open a bag, all I can see are blue, yellow, and pink rainbows staring at me. It’s overwhelming. I don’t mind a company running a promotion from time to time, in fact, I support them. But when a “promotion” takes over the entire product, it becomes too much. I can no longer find the normal product, where the marshmallow to cereal ratio was normal. I live for sugar, so trust me when I say they are doing too much with the marshmallows, because if I’m saying it’s too much, it’s way too much.
