262 btw

By Averi Halbert

There’s a countdown
That hasn’t stopped running through my head
Counting, tracking
How many months
Weeks
Days
Until we part ways

Once we leave
Will I ever see you again
Will you leave in silence
Or will you stay
My number 1 contact
On my cracked phone
And
One day
When I come across a picture of us
In these moments now
Will I blank on your name
Stutter over a few, trying to find
the familiar sound I once knew

But for right now
I’m ignoring the countdown
The fear
The time
Because for right now
I don’t want it to end
I don’t want it to change

265
264
263

262 days
Just in case
You were keeping track
