Coming off another thrilling college season, many women’s basketball fans were excited to continue watching their favorite players in the WNBA. From existing star players like Napheesa Collier and A’ja Wilson to the incoming rookie class, there was no doubt this summer would be filled with great games and fun moments between teams. Yet, despite last year’s historical season, many fans still struggle to gain access to watching these games. Most games are streamed on League Pass, a paid subscription that is more expensive than purchasing the Disney+ and Hulu bundle. To make matters worse, if a game is on a national network, it won’t be on League Pass. Furthermore, only a few select games are actually streamed on cable networks—of those few, even fewer are streamed on large channels like ESPN. Most times, I can only watch the play-by-play on the ESPN app…so exciting. Ultimately, there are still many hoops fans must jump through in order to enjoy women’s basketball, but I really hope that as the league grows, watching will become more accessible.
