AOTI: Charismatic Casey Kim

By Cami Yee

With a fun but elegant style, a bright laugh, and impeccable fashion sense, Casey Kim is the epitome of an artist. With intricate, beautiful works filled with details, Casey’s pieces range from both unique and colorful works to serious pieces with immense depth and thought. Throughout the years, I have been lucky enough to watch Casey’s brilliant creativity in action– whether that be with digital art, painting, or drawing, her focus and dedication is unmatched and truly magnificent to witness.

Casey comes from a family of talented people. With a mother in graphic design, she quickly found a knack for creativity, something she and her twin sister, Alexis Kim, share. The duo of artists have taken Westmont by storm, drawing their way into AP Art and past it to the most prestigious colleges in the United States, including the renowned Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Rhode Island. Their success truly reflects their hard work, the endless hours they spent with their art teachers, honing their skills and practicing to perfection.

As an underclassmen, although I was only able to see snippets of Casey’s doodles and casual sketches, I found myself in awe of her ability to transform a blank canvas into lasting bits of beauty. Working with her for the class banners for BOTC and HOCO only solidified my respect for her work ethic, as she helped create the most beautiful banners in our class history.

As we grew older, I discovered her more serious pieces. When she explained the rationale behind her art, I felt myself admiring her even more than I did before because of her expertise and utmost passion for art. Her darker pieces were immensely impactful and left an unmistakable impact on viewers. The details of color, shadows, and all of the in-between truly demonstrated her abilities to pull the pieces of her artwork together. In addition, one of Casey’s new pieces, “Off Track” will be reproduced on a doorway downtown as a part of the San Jose Downtown Doors program alongside her sister’s work, “Life In The Dreamhouse.” Throughout the years, it has truly been an honor to see her pieces grow in skill as Casey’s artistic prowess thrives in any environment.

As she leaves Westmont, she leaves behind a legacy of dedication, beauty, and hard work. Wherever she decides to go, we are immensely proud of her and look forward to witnessing her next chapter of greatness. Congratulations Casey!
