As a film fanatic, and having watched several, several, films, I’ve developed a well-rounded understanding of characters in cinema. Below I’ve categorized some of, what I think, are the best character portrayals of various themes in film.

Vengeance:

The Chosen One:

Yearning:

  1. Anthony Bridgerton (Bridgerton)
  2. Mr. Darcy (Pride and Prejudice)
  3. Jack Twist (Brokeback Mountain)

Heroism: 

  1. Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird)
  2. Oskar Schindler (Schindler’s List)
  3. Peter Parker (Spiderman)

Grief:

  1. Carl Fredricksen (Up)
  2. Jack Salmon (The Lovely Bones)
  3. Vada Margaret Sultenfuss (My Girl)

Right Person, Wrong Time

  1. Seb and Mia (La La Land)
  2. Héloïse and Marianne (Portrait of a Lady on Fire)
