The bright red sun pierced my eyes through lightly tinted sunglasses. Wind blowing through rolled-down windows, reviving me after a long and hard school year. Friends in the car, joyfully singing to the best part of this warm season: summer music. There is a wide variety of perfect summer music—indie rock, rap, R&B—that heals the soul. Some of my favorites include “Lost” by Frank Ocean, “Helmet” by Steve Lacy, “Freaking Out The Neighborhood” by Mac DeMarco, and so much more. Summer music is absolutely perfect for any time of the year. With perfect-sounding beats, funky bass lines, and incredible musical interludes, summer music makes moments nostalgic and free. These songs feel like sunscreen on skin, sand between toes, waves crashing on the beach. The bass thumps in rhythm with our laughter, the road stretching endlessly ahead like the freedom we crave. Each song is a memory in the making, and I chase beats long after the sun sets in this season. I can’t wait for summer.
