Black Cat Energy

By Joseph Nian

It is with my greatest pleasure that I present the Wally Award for “Most Black Cat Energy” to one lucky individual. A person with black cat energy is often described as someone with mysterious, chill, and nonchalant energy. Who is befitting of this description? Of course, it is the one and only Kenneth Lin. You can find him in the local halls of Westmont, walking alone mysteriously. If you don’t see him walking, you can find him at the benches near the cafeteria, where he chills amongst his friends, silently observing the conversations as they go on. Lastly, Kenneth also brings a tremendous amount of bad luck to those around him…through test scores. What do I mean by this exactly? Kenneth is so smart that if a test had a curve, he was probably the one that set it or went above the curve. Safe to say that Kenneth Lin definitely deserves the Wally Award of “Most Black Cat Energy”.

Now, let me share the inside scoop of responses from Kenneth’s closest friends — Christy Liu and Oscar Tsai — regarding insightful questions about him.

Would you describe him as nonchalant?

Christy: Kenneth is the most nonchalant person I know. It’s like all his energy is used on homework and sports, which leaves him to just exist at school

Oscar: He is literally the definition of nonchalant.

Is he the smartest person you know?

Christy: Kenneth is like Albert Einstein 2.0 but got nerfed by a lack of sleep

Oscar: Not the “smartest”, but definitely one of the smarter ones I know.

Would you describe him as a golden retriever?

Christy: Definitely not.

Oscar: Definitely not a golden retriever.

Has there ever been a moment where you thought, “yep, he gives black cat energy”?

Christy: When we had to get the whole friend group to get him to go to a football game for the first time, the only reason he went was for Oscar.

Oscar: Definitely, but I can’t put my finger on just one moment. You kind of have to just be around him to pick up on it.
