For the first time since 2022, folk band Caamp has released new music. Known for popular songs “By and By” and “Vagabond”, Caamp has amassed a following for their upbeat, indie sound. Following the release of their new single “Let Things Go”, Caamp dropped three other songs to make up their new EP, Somewhere. All four songs follow the general style of Caamp’s music – unique banjo picking, low-key vocals, and relaxing lyrics.
“Slackjaw”
The background guitar chords give this song an upbeat mood while providing that signature folk sound. Its sweet, loving message also brings a sense of positivity and makes the song an overall enjoyable listening experience.
“Let Things Go”
My favorite song of the EP, this song has a great message and an addicting melody. The banjo at the beginning hits in just the right way and remains in the background for the entire song. I especially like the lyrics “Set things down, it’s okay to take a rest, let things go, it’s not good for you or anybody else” – I think a lot of people need to hear that!
“Used to This” (feat. Bebe Stockwell)
Unlike most Caamp songs, this one includes female backing vocals that provide an enchanting quality to the piece. It also has a little higher production, including a variety of instruments rather than only the banjo. I would love to listen to this song while lying in a big grass field somewhere – I could get used to that.
“Somewhere”
Almost an opposite to “Used to This”, “Somewhere” begins with just one banjo and slowly incorporates some light percussion and guitar, featuring Taylor Meier’s signature solo vocals. This song is also the longest of the album and picks up around the three-minute mark, bringing the EP to a strong ending after 12 minutes of tranquil music.
