The Simplicity of Background Music

By Averi Halbert

I was raised with a YouTube-loving dad. Depending on the day, his choice of content ranges from dog training to car cleaning, art restorations, and to random physics/space videos. However, there is one specific type of video he watches, that I absolutely adore. Every once in a while, when I wake up eerily early, I walk to the front room following the sound of peaceful calming classical or jazz music. And every time, without fail, I find my dad lying on the couch with my dog and reading whatever new book he is on or making breakfast. The calming background music videos on YouTube are one of the best things to exist on the internet. At the end of fall and throughout winter, these videos prevail in our house. From the cafes to the cozy living rooms, the simplicity of the scenery and music makes everything a bit more calm, a bit more peaceful. Now, I have found that having these videos playing in the background increases productivity by an absurd amount. If your homework feels never-ending and constant, play some  “Chill Fall Night in Cozy Living Room” background music, like this, and you will finish immediately. While I can appreciate my dad’s choice of entertainment, there is nothing better than the simplicity of background music.
