I generally dislike K-dramas, but Squid Games is an exception. Being one of the best Netflix shows ever is rightfully so. The suspense of each episode leaves the audience wanting more. I’ve never wanted to continue watching a show more than this one. I was skeptical at first about watching it. I truly thought it would be just another show like Outer Banks that everyone says is good but, in reality, it is boring. I was completely wrong. This show deserves all the “hype”. I enjoyed every last bit of it. Season one was good, but season two, I mean WOW. To be honest, the first two episodes were so boring that I stopped watching it for a bit until my friend told me it was going to get better. After an effort to get through that second episode, my opinion changed. The new characters for season two were just what I needed except for Seong Gi-hun his portrayal of player 456 is amazing, a phenomenal male lead who made the audience see how wealth isn’t the source of happiness. One of my favorite characters was Thanos. Although he was popping pills sometimes in the episodes, his commentary was deeply appreciated, and coming to find the actor was given no script just makes sense and makes his character so much better. I will say season two had me balling. The death of Young-mi was heartbreaking. Seeing Cho Hyun-jun feel so devastated made his crying much worse. But what did it for me was the son and mother duo that was playing, when he got spattered by her and was yelling“That’s my mom”. I truly thought she was a goner until they saved her, and when they reunited, he just broke down apologizing, making me cry like no other show I’ve ever seen. Despite the cliffhanger at the end and only a few episodes each season, this show made me change my mind completely about K-dramas and= So I’ve decided to watch Alice in Borderland, which is a Japanese drama. It’s still very good, but does come close to squid games.
