The Brilliance of Baking

By Maya Bourne

During COVID, I decided that, as a challenge to myself, I would try and bake something every single day of the summer. That one decision snowballed into one of the most amazing hobbies I have picked up in my life. The process of baking is incredibly therapeutic, and I love whipping up a batch of cookies whenever I feel stressed. The absolute best time to bake is when you are home alone, music pumping at full volume in the background, and you are just throwing some flour and sugar in a bowl while dancing around the kitchen.

Baking is sometimes a delicate science, especially for complicated desserts like macarons, which can be destroyed when you look at the eggs wrong. Others, like cookies and breads, can be created by simply dumping a bunch of ingredients in a bowl and mixing. There is truly something for everyone. Whether you want to spend 30 minutes or 3 days on a project, the result will be an amazing experience, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get a treat out of it too.
